1971 Vietnam Era SPH-4 Helicopter US Army Pilot Flight Helmet
SPH-4 US Army type helicopter pilot flight helmet, made by GENTEX. 1st pattern (1969-1974) with the 0.38" polystyrene foam energy absorbing liner. Dated 1971. Complete with cloth and leather liner, suspension, boom mic, headphones, cable and jack. Size LARGE. Tinted visor with securing screw. Colonel rank decal on visor's housing. Named on the back "COL. GRAY". Designed for a better sound protection, hence the SP letters, the SPH-4 didn't provide no more impact protection than the previous APH-5 series. An iconic period equipment of the helicopter crews during Vietnam war.
