1971 AFH-1 Helicopter US Army Pilot Flight Helmet

US Army and US Air Force aircrew and pilot, AFH-1 (Anti-Fragmentation Helmet Nr 1) flight helmet, very rare production made by MARMAC IND. Inc, dated 1971 (only year contract for this company). Size "SMALL". Complete with boom mike, cable, jack and earphones. Leather covered foam pads. Single tinted visor with securing knob. Excellent condition. This is a special version of the well known APH-5A, much heavier (800g more) with a shell made of layers of ballistic and resin. This weight excess made it unpopular amongst the helicopter crews in Vietnam due the heat of climate. It was declared obsolete and superseded by the lighter and more sound protective SPH-4 . Iconic helmet of the last years of Vietnam war with the AC-130 Gunship and UH-1 helicopter crews. Mint condition.
