US Navy APH-5 jet fighter pilot helmet with matching MS-22001 oxygen mask, circa 1956-60. The helmet is complete with leather covered pads, earphones, cable and jack. Size LARGE, made by GENTEX (General Textile Mills). Period upgraded tinted visor, push type securing knob. Period upgrade with HARDMANN chrome receivers for the oxygen mask's hard shell and "Christmas Tree" attachment. The helmet shell has been covered with reflecting tape to facilitate the pilots rescue in case of ditching over water. Boom mike on the right side to use the coms when the mask isn't attached. MS-22001 oxygen mask is made by MSA dated 1957, with microphone and HARDMAN hardshell with "CHRISTMAS TREES" fasteners. MC-3 oxygen connector. A very nice helmet, typical equipment of early carrier pilots flying F-4D Skyray, AD-5 Skyraiders or Panthers F-9F. The set belonged to the same pilot and was used on an aircraft equipped with an ejection seat as evidenced by the snap fastener attached to one of the mask straps, allowing it to be attached to the shoulder of the MA-2 torso harness when not in use. Display head is included.
