Spanish Cross in Gold with gold swords (Spanienkreuz mit Schwertern in Gold). Stamped L/13 on reverse, corresponding to Paul Meybauer, Berlin (circa 1941-1943). Manufactured in gilded tombac (zinc, pewter and brass alloy). Vertical pin, hinge and hook all consistent with this manufacturer's details. The Spanish Cross was introduced from 1939 to reward acts of bravery in combat and exceptional command during the Spanish Civil War within the Condor Legion. Only 1,100 Spanish Crosses in Gold will be awarded throughout World War II. A rare and exceptional piece of Luftwaffe memorabilia.
