1952 US Air Force Mark 2 MK-II Life Preserver

Rare US Air Force pilots and aircrews green version of the Mark 2 life vest (without the USN BUAER stamp on the back), made of coated nylon cloth, 1st pattern with just 2 pockets for flares/smoke devices (empty). WWII/Korean war period Dye-Marker pouches and tin signal lamp are included. Made by SWITLIK. Dated 1952. Mint condition. Produced since the late 1940s for the US Navy in yellow coated canvas, the Mk-II vest was modified in the mid-1950s with two additional pockets for dye-markers and shark chaser, then in its final evolution it was made in orange coated canvas and used during the early years of the Vietnam War before being replaced by the Mk-3C LP made necessary by the new integrated harness systems for ejection seats. Rare item, especially in this kind of condition, perfect for a F-86 Sabre pilot display.
