A very fine set including a helmet and oxygen mask belonging to a US Air Force jet pilot, circa 1953-55. The helmet is a P-3 type, circa 1953, manufactured by the Selby Shoe Company, with a tinted visor and short brackets. Phenolic resin shell. Size SMALL. Original hand-painted and stenciled decoration. Complete HS-38A avionics and U-75/U connector. Leather and nylon suspension stamped US Air Force with manufacturer's label. Rare A-13A type oxygen mask, circa 1946-1953, SMALL size in good condition with an AN-B-MC1 microphone (the cord became hard with cracks) and early 191A2 connector. A superb and rare matching set. display bust is included. This set most likely equipped a pilot flying an F-86 Sabre or F-84 Thunderjet. The colors used to customize the helmet correspond to the markings of the 49th Fighter Bomber Group.
