Camo HGU-26 USAF US Air Force Pilot Flight Helmet

A US Air Force pilot's HGU-26/P helmet and MBU-5/P oxygen mask set circa 1978-1984. The helmet is a type HGU-26 with a dual visor system (clear and tinted). Size LARGE. The helmet visor and shell have been covered with regulation camouflage tape by the flight equipment preparation teams within each US Air Force unit. It features a custom liner, a complete audio system with earphones, and a side connector for the oxygen mask wiring. The MBU-5/P oxygen mask is made by SCOTT, dated 1980, size Regular Narrow. It has a quick-release connector (as seen on F-111 crews). The set is complete with microphone, cable, and plug. The display bust is included. Contrary to popular belief, these taped helmets were not used during the Vietnam War but rather from the mid-1970s onward, as evidenced by the offset oxygen mask attachments. This equipment was characteristic of A-10 Thunderbolt (see photo of the 511th Tactical Fighter Squadron), Corsair II, F-111, and B-52 pilots and crews of that period. A striking and beautiful decorative object for an office or man cave. An iconic and essential piece in any collection of flight helmets.
