HGU-2/P helmet and MBU-5/P oxygen mask set, circa 1978/85. The helmet is a HGU-2 model with a single tinted visor system. Size LARGE. The helmet visor has been covered with regulation camouflage tape by the technical flight equipment preparation teams present within each US Air Force unit. The visor cover has been cut to improve the field of vision, a common practice among fighter pilots since the late 1960s. Visor securing knob has been covered with felt material to protect the canopy from scratches.  "Custom" liner, complete audio system with earphones and side jack for connecting the oxygen mask wiring. The MBU-5/p model oxygen mask is made by SIERRA, dated 1982, size LONG NARROW, complete with microphone, cable and plug. The presentation bust is included. An iconic piece and a must-have in a flight helmet collection. This type of helmet has been seen on USAF pilots of the LTV A-7D Corsair II, Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, or McDonnell Douglas Phantom II during the period from the late 1970s to the early 1980s.
