Early 50's US Air Force jet pilot's helmet and oxygen mask. The P-1A helmet is a rare size LARGE, production circa 1951-1953 by LITE MFG CO. Phenolic resin shell. Rare original decal marked "ARMY AIR FORCES" which makes it very early and matching the marking on the leather roundel on liner. Complete with chamois-covered earpieces, cable, and U-79 plug. Nylon and leather suspension stamped US AIR FORCES with manufacturer's label. Also included is an A-13A/MS22001 oxygen mask, size MEDIUM made by MSA Mine Safety Appliances) with no visible date. The rubber has remained perfectly supple. It is complete with harness, microphone, and early PL-291 connector. The goggles are B-8 type with chamois lining stamped "US AIR FORCE". Very rare set. The P-1 and P-1A helmets differ from the P-1B in that they lack the three pre-drilled holes on each side of the shell that would later be used to install the P-3 visor mounts. Display bust is included.
