Vietnam APH-5A Helicopter US Army Pilot Helmet

Named APH-5 Army type helicopter crew flight helmet with matching carrying bag and owner's logbook. Made by GENTEX. Dated 1964. Size MEDIUM. Early white painted 1st pattern with fiberglass visor housing and chromed metal visor track. Early brown securing knob. Complete with boom mic, headphones, cable and jack. Leather covered cushion pads. Excellent condition. Also included are the original and matching owner's carrying bag, logbook and dog tag. Typical period equipment for helicopter crews during the early years of Vietnam war. Most pilots and door gunners will camouflage them with green paint for obvious survival reasons. These helmets will be superseded by the green ones from year 1966 on. Named to LTC Willys Everett Davis (1932-2022). He served more than 30 years on active duty. He was a parachutist, an Army Ranger and a senior Army aviator. His military assignments included command of platoon, company, and battalion size units of infantry, airborne, and airmobile divisions. He completed two combat tours in Vietnam. Colonel Davis also served on the Army staff of the Chief of research and development in Washington, D.C. His last assignment was commander, security assistance training field activity, Fort Monroe, Virginia with responsibility for coordinating the training support sponsored by the U.S. Army to numerous foreign countries.
