D-Day Named RAF Flight Lieutenant Uniform


British Royal Air Force regulation Officers service uniform. Bespoke by "AUSTIN REED", London. WWII pattern with gusset pocket and 4 buttons (the last button will be moved up behind the belt from 1947 on). Padded embroidered cotton on wool backing Observer wings. Brass buckle and R.A.F buttons. Flight Lieutenant ranks on cuffs. 1939-45 Star with bronze oak leaf for Mentioned in Dispatches , Air Crew Europe Star, North Africa Star, Burma Star and Defence medal ribbons. Named to Flt Lt Gordon Leonard Bruce who served in the Number 4 Beach Squadron and landed on KING Beach. Fully original. Cap, shirt and tie aren't included. Perfect for a mannequin display.

First to land on D-Day from No. 4 R.A.F. Beach Squadron:-

"Those in 107 Beach Flight who landed early were with 69th Brigade in Assault Group G2. Squadron Leader Taylor landed on King Red beach from an L.C.A. at 08:50 hours, having made the crossing in a L.C.H. Flight Lieutenant Wilson (Landing Officer) and Flight Sergeant Gould (Senior N.C.O. of the Landing Section) landed in a jeep from an L.C.T. IV at 09:10 hours.
Those in 108 Beach Flight who landed early were with 231st Brigade in Assault Group G1 and their landing was scheduled for H+120mins (09:25 hours). S/Ldr Lovatt (Beach Flight Commander), F/Lt Morris and LAC Gordon landed from L.S.T. 25. F/Lt Bruce and F/Sgt House were in L.C.T. 809 which was sunk off the KING beaches and their jeep was ‘drowned’.
